Frank W. Benson Exhibition Information

Summer, 1909
Snowy Hill, 1946. Watercolor on paper, 16 3/4 x 24 1/2", private collection.

The summer of 2012 marks the 150th anniversary of Frank W. Benson's birth. It will also mark the opening of an exhibition, organized by The Farnsworth Art Museum, that will focus on Benson's life and work on North Haven Island - a short ferry ride across Maine's Penobscot Bay from Rockland's harbor. The current working title, "Impressionist Summers," tells it all. It was there, at his summer home "Wooster Farm," that Benson painted almost all of his brilliant, sun-drenched Impressionist paintings, launched his prolific etching career and began his highly successful watercolor period. The exhibition is slated to open in June of 2012.
